Hi, I'm Kasper "Kazzual" Vancoppenolle, 18 years and I'm a DJ. I live in Ghent, and I study Graphical and Digital Media. But that's not what you came here for!
So, I'm a DJ, and I think I've been spinning the tables for about 3 years now. I started of by learning the skills of turntables and vinyl at a friends house, with awesome pounding techno music. Later on I was very interested in drum and bass records, and I liked the dnb tracks more and more. After a while I bought my own equipment: 2 cheap turntables and a cheap mixer, and started off with about 10 records. I used to mix them over and over, to learn the skills of beatmatching, EQing and more.
After a while I got tired of the 10 records (obviously!), and bought NI Traktor Scratch, because I liked the combination of using the music from your computer, and still have the vinyl feeling.
I also experimented with midi-controllers in combination with the vinyl or standalone, but that wasn't really interesting enough for me. But one day, ready to play at a gig, my laptop wasn't starting up anymore. That night, I smashed my laptop in a thousand pieces, so frustrated that I couldn't play on that gig. That's about the time, after two years, that I realised that I needed new and good equipment. So I bought 2 CDJ850's and mixed with both CD and USB.
My style of drum and bass has varied a lot over the 3 years, from liquid to commercial to neurophunk to oldskool to jump up... I don't really like to be limited to only one genre, because I like all styles of drum and bass. That's why my big hero is Andy C: he plays everything, wherever, whenever, and he does it soooo good!
For the moment, I'm a part of the DNBITF (Drum And Bass In Your Face) crew. It's a collab between Rafael 'Artoo' Derolez and me. We mix drum and bass together.
Recently I discovered a new genre: Electro-Swing. It's a kind of jazz-swing-bebop-balkan mixture, mixed with house-beats, creating a very danceable atmosphere. I've almost uploaded my first Electro-Swing to both soundcloud, and vi.be.
