KATYA CHOROVER (KHAT-ee-ya TCHOE-rover)
New Release, October 2011: Big Big Love
An independent musician and songwriter, formerly from Seattle, now living in Southwest Colorado, Katya’s sound is often compared with early Emmylou Harris, Lucinda Williams, and Iris Dement. Her music has been described as twang-folk, or, as one listener called it: “folky-tonk”.
Big Big Love, her first CD in ten years, went to #9 on the Folk-DJ charts after its first month of release. The album was recorded in Portland, Oregon last winter, released in October, and distributed to radio and press in December 2011. “…there’s a trace of sorrow in her delivery, the sound of a teardrop caught in the back of her throat. It’s the sound all great country singers have... The band on Big Big Love crackles and Chorover’s vocals wrap around you like a favourite blanket on a cold night.” -Penguin Eggs (Canadian Roots Music Magazine)
The CD was produced by talented NW musician Casey Neill and features a stellar backing band of Portland’s finest roots Americana players, collectively including several former (and one current) members of the Decemberists, Lucinda Williams touring band, Caleb Clauder Country Band, Asleep at the Wheel, The Eels, and the Minus 5.
Big Big Love is getting airplay all over the US, Canada, the UK, and as far away as Down Under! Here’s what some of the DJs are saying:

More from the Press: “a beautiful melodic snap shot of migration, loss and eventual redemption. Katya’s voice makes me think of a young Nanci Griffith and she has the ability and delicate grace to make the mind conjure windswept mountain ranges filled with long lost love. The album includes standout tracks Cavalries of Love, Little Bird and Satisfied Life. Big Big Love would sit well on your 2012 playlists!” -Gigape.com blogger Paul McGlade
“...one big lullaby, soft and sweet like a comfy down pillow... Each track has a comforting rhythm and draws on a little bluegrass influence. Graceful. Poetic. Delicate. And all draped in acoustic roots. It's a great independent effort. Stand-out tracks- "Little Bird" and "Possession" -That Nashville Sound, Americana Music Blog
