Playing next at Killing Time Bar, Melbourne - with Ben Abrahams on Feb 10th
Co-owner of Motion:Theory:Music with Ben Abrahams
Sublime sounds and hypnotic funk stimulate her being, compelling her to source and mix, creating a micro, deep tech, soul-stirring experience she calls astral:house. Those who crave a nourishing sonic experience have followed Katharine’s journey along the Australian East Coast with her musical partner Ben Abrahams for over two decades, as they’ve influenced the scene with their exciting taste & consistent delivery of stimulating underground music.
Together they created ‘Strange Brew’, an all ages acid-house vinyl party at the Billinudgel Shed, Byron Bay; revelling in the outback for sunset was deliciously surreal. They ran eight extremely memorable years of Saturday nights at Elsewhere Bar on the Gold Coast; hosting greats such as Paul Woolford and DjThree. Katharine would play balaeric house before Ben's killer 5 hour sets, then both of them joined together for the heaving sweaty early morning hours: many deep friendships were formed during that time.
Katharine then had the first of her two children before returning to Melbourne and putting on parties at the infamous Killing Time Bar & My Aeon while playing the local circuit. They ran high-vibe parties, always with a tight crew of Australia’s best underground djs, and now have their forward thinking electronic music label Motion:Theory:Music, representing local artists Jules David and Timmus, and internationals such as Vincent Casanova, Jay Tripwire and Herck. She will be playing for their next EP release celebration: a night to experience their own take on modern house music.
Katharine’s closing set at A Collective Future party way out in the bush was magical, as her unique way elevated and deeply satisfied the sunset crowd. You can also find her djing at Over, Killing Time Bar, but enjoy her anytime through the podcasts she makes for collectives who appreciate her taste and ability to source irresistible bass lines with trip-tastic accompaniments.
Katharine made mixes for Art-E Romania and the Microtechno Podcast series eight years ago now, having long been recognised for her way with intricate sounds, particularly with lovers of micro-house and the Romanian influenced minimal. *Feeder Sound said “her recordings are intense and with a sophisticated perspective on sounds and rhythms." Her last mix Helix Hangout was featured by XLR8R, and she has just given a heartfelt set to the Enveloper Records crew in Sydney. She has upcoming podcasts for the DeepMVMT London, Sono Unica, Sockholm, the brand new Dotflex Club night in Plymouth & Rhizome Records in Seattle: Katharine keeps on lovingly creating stirring soundtracks for her friends’ lives.
K: All my mixes, going back to the birth of my first child when I finally started hitting record after years of vinyl club djing at Elsewhere, are there to enhance your life. It's vibration appreciation, an experience of energy flow which always leaves you enhanced. I make many new friends after they hear my mixes, as they feel immediately drawn to more (it's addictive!), and compelled to connect. I just love to celebrate all the amazing music I find; there are so many tremendously talented hue-mans out there!! Please lap up my own private mix series as well as my podcasts for friends xx
"The researcher Majix says our brains are so sensitive, that they are like liquid crystal in response to the magnetic component of the earth. We are sensitive to earth’s magnetic changes, changes in the ionospheric cavity and resonate those frequencies ourselves. We are incredibly complex entities, beyond the layperson‘s comprehension. Our brains are indeed a type of bio-cosmic transducer." Nicholas Jones.
