This is a new version of my title cut from my album "Songs Of Life".
It is on a beautiful compilation CD called "Voice Of Life", that came out in December 2012. The producers really did an incredible job, touching deeply on the concepts of sound healing. The entire album is incredible and I only have 2 songs on the album!
On this song, I sing lead and backing vocals, plus play the rare and mysterious Hang instrument. Backing vocals are done with Peter Wolff.
Production and additional recording was done by David Leon and Peter Wolff.
A Personal Experience:
While in the studio, there was so much patience to learn with this experience of re-doing a song that was already (in my eyes) a complete masterpiece.
I learned so much. Especially in how to dig deeper into an incredible song and birth more from it; creating a new story.
In the re-mixing and re-recording of this new version, the new lyrics mimicked real life of sometimes how we miss the harmony, yet we make songs of life, continuing on.
There was miscommunication, misunderstanding, discomfort when working on the song (I felt like a bumbling idiot, at times), financial set-backs and promises broken.
I was referred by the producers to a seemingly "incredible" engineer to do a completely different Hang-only music album. This arrogant Italian guy not only massacred the recordings, but then accused me of not being "spiritual" because I wasn't satisfied with his poor work; and then charged me for his work. Plus, he somehow "ran out of time" to do a better job. Needless to say, this guy was extremely unprofessional. If anyone ever asks me about him, I will give them an earful. He should not be calling himself a producer! It underscores the arrogance of people in the music industry and the sharks that live in that industry, who are not true artists.
The songs were unusable for the concept album I intended to create, and so I wait until I can do my own version, myself. I intend on using the "scraps" of those songs to piece together new songs and record better music! Stay tuned for that!
I don't blame the VOL producers at all for this person's arrogance. And, there was a kernel of goodness that happened when this experience went down: the producers for Voice Of Life were kind enough to ask the guy for a discount on the large sum he charged me and they got a partial discount for me. That was good and it made things feel better.
The experience continued to remind me of the lyrics of the song I was creating with the VOL producers and the lesson I learned - to always trust my instincts.
But more importantly in the end, we continued on with the songs, got over it and created this beautiful version of Songs Of Life, despite the uncomfortable feelings.
In it, you would never know the back story, as the beauty shines forth. And maybe it is through the struggle that makes for the beauty of the song. Like the pressure from the Earth that creates the diamond from coal, here are the fruits of our labor.
"Moving through it, moving on, moving to it, moving on. Sometimes we miss the harmony, yet we make songs of life. Songs of life...we create the songs of life... Songs of Life"
