Escape (Live at World Premiere, 8 April 2014) by Kat Felicis Ioco published on 2014-04-26T15:19:31Z Performed by the 2013-2014 Irondale High School Concert Band (directed by Bill Sucha) at their Spring Concert on 8 April 2014. Conductor: Bill Sucha (p) 2014 "Escape" plays more along the lines of a percussion ensemble with band accompaniment than a concert band piece due to the sheer amount of percussion involved. I had twelve percussionists at my disposal and knew I had to keep them all busy somehow, which resulted in using over twenty different percussion instruments in addition to a full concert band of winds, brass, and string bass. However, this is a technically demanding piece in all sections, from the various mallet and woodwind runs to the moving bassline to the offbeat-based rhythms to the trumpet descant. I pulled out all the stops to make "Escape" the most challenging yet fun piece the band had played all year, and I hope its multiple layers and unique character give you an enjoyable listening experience.
