Interstellar Radio Message by Katie Currie published on 2019-11-06T16:28:26Z For as long as we’ve had the means, humans have been on a quest to know if we are alone in the universe. Interstellar Radio Messages celebrates our fascination with the great unknown, exploring the concepts of transmission, translation and communication. The project focuses on several of this planet’s inhabitants (strangers on the internet) and the message they would beam to potential life forms on behalf of humanity. These responses were translated into Morse code and paired alongside mysterious signals that Earth has received from space, creating a unique soundscape. Who knows... perhaps this piece will garner a response. The project focuses on several of this planet’s inhabitants (i.e. strangers on the internet) and the messages they would beam to potential life forms on behalf of humanity. These questions were translated into Morse code and paired alongside mysterious signals that Earth has received from space, creating a unique soundscape of beauty and isolation. Featured sounds include; nine mysterious signals called FRBs (or Fast Radio Bursts) which have been detected by the Very Large Array Observatory and generated into sound files, recordings by NASA on space exploration trips including a moon ‘song’, which is a strange noise detected while astronauts were on the far side of the moon and the ‘alien WOW! Signal’ which was received in 1977. Genre Art
