The longer it goes on, the further entrenched the idea becomes that pinball can't survive on its own merits. This is probably true anyway, and equally there may not be any way to breakthrough from it, but it doesn't mean studios shouldn't at least *try* to experiment and bring something to the table that performs well in tests that people don't actually know they want yet.
