juSt b - Decoded Magazine: http://na.decodedmagazine.com/night-met-marc-henry/
Nov.21st, 2003 marked the initiation of a young woman’s significant journey. Fresh on the path of a big life change, she stepped out on the blissful dance floor @ Stereo, the infamous Montreal after-hours ....and the result ....was monumental. A major shift had begun as did her intense love affair with electronic music. And there was absolutely no turning back!
Bonnie aka juSt b only realized in early 2013 that she was destined to take her music passion to a deeper level. Her first official gig came in Sept. ‘13, after her long-awaited move from Ottawa to Toronto. In a short time, she earned a summer residency at Parlour & played a host of successful events @ The Midnight MRKT, Geary Ave, Toika, Bassline, Rasputin, Li’Ly, CTRLRoom, Escobar, Round, & Pacific Junction, in addition to being recruited by Amber Long as a writer for Decoded Magazine North America.
Her inspirations are as diverse as her personality, spanning a range of artists, genres, & styles, each one incredibly impactful. You’ll see from her impressive profile & mix collection, boasting nearly 2000 followers & over 30,000 plays, that she explores everything from smooth vocals & earthy rhythms to lush melodies & deep, sexy grooves; from chunky tech & dirty, seductive bass lines to fierce & funky dance floor bombs, with an emotive touch of progressive & subtle techno to round things out. She’s highly adaptable to a venue & crowd, driven by robust intuition & an exquisite auditory sense for intelligent depth & substance. She’s guaranteed to keep you moving, feeling, & yearning for more!
Major influences include long-time friend Brad Copeland, Luke Fair, Ricky Ryan, 16 Bit Lolitas, Henry Saiz, Marc Marzenit, Hybrid, Eelke Kleijn, & Jody Wisternoff (all of whom she’s had the privilege of knowing personally), as well as Maceo Plex, Jon Charnis, Tale of Us, Olivier Giacomotto, Davi, Paul Hazendonk, Einmusik, Hisham Zahran, Naveen G, Stimming, & Toronto compadres - @dustinnantais @timpenner & @ev3rsun - plus SO many more!
The last 2 years represent a major turning point in Bonnie’s life & a celebration of what she’s learned and accomplished thus far. In a city & industry of endless DJs vying for gigs & attention, juSt b is wisely forging her own unique path; taking pride in crafting unforgettable musical journeys on & off the dance floor while choosing her approach as carefully as she does her track selections.
Running on the heels of an exclusive feature for @Thump, an Electronic Groove guest mix, a @DecodedMagazine Resident night on DanceRadio.ca; a spot in VICE Magazine; plus several podcasts inc. Party103 in NYC, this is exactly the path she's meant to 'b' on.
“Rarely does one come across someone as musically dedicated as bonnie. She is one of the very few people that does it purely for the love of music and nothing else.” ~ Hisham Zahran (Cairo) ~ Moodmusic, Anjunadeep
"From her humble beginnings as a passionate and dedicated connoisseur of great house music, I've witnessed juSt b's growth into an incredibly capable, consistent, confident, & versatile DJ w/ the ability to adapt to a variety of environments. As a result of her exemplary work ethic, willingness to learn & outgoing personality, the rise from her early mixes to playing many successful events has been quick. A true inspiration with the potential to do great things!" ~ @Ev3rsun(Toronto)
