Description of the event:
All Pib Slow Play: A sedimentation of history and sound was held at Yale Farm on Friday, April 15, 2022 involving a curated music program, with mixes by students and artists. These mixes were composed of slowed cumbia and ambient sounds, along with the ambiance of an outdoor kitchen, all streamed on Local Radio and soundtracking the slow-cooking of tamales in an underground pit—a Pib. This project was named after DJ Screw’s 1999 record All Work No Play and a description of Elysia Crampton’s work, a performance centering slowness as a vehicle through embodied acts “as an essential mode of cultural […] representation and transmission of knowledge,” to awaken "the memories of home/lands, land practices, and resistance to uprooting."
