Kaleidoscope (shortened version) by jscottrakozy published on 2012/11/13 18:02:48 +0000 So I was given the opportunity to use a new program that will be coming out call "Polyphon" by 8dio. So they asked me to write a demo, using the instrument, so I decided to take a different approach as oppose to what one would normally use this for. So the scoring took less than 3 hours to create this piece. Even though it's short, the piano/string segment is what took up a lot of time because it was difficult to figure out a chord progression that would suit the feel of the piece. It was a lot of fun to write and using the instrument it was really fun to see how the sound would echo throughout the score using the Dark and Shimmering setting. The melody was extremely difficult to do because I had a ton of ideas but none of them were flowing for me......nor were the chord progressions. The moment I played the melody that you will hear in the piece, I was set on it and went straight with it with the strings! The guitar at the end was an idea I knew right away I wanted to do once I had laid down a synth pad. One more thing to add, I went with the simplistic approach was to show that you can use this instrument as another color within a song, just like any other instrument. Generally this instrument is played by itself, but I wanted to bring it into a film score setting see how well it meshed with the other sounds and instruments. So I took this child-like feel for the piece and hopefully that comes across, feeling child-like, but once the piano and strings come in, it takes on another emotion. Anyway, enjoy the piece, it's definitely made for relaxing (that was one of the difficult things to do with the instrument because it's a sharp, bright instrument). I'm sure I'll probably lengthen it a bit longer today, but I wanted to get this out today. Comment, download and like! Thanks! As always, it was done on a 13 inch Macbook Pro 2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 8GB of RAM, using EWQL Symphonic for the strings, Cinesample's Piano in Blue for the steinway piano, and Logic Pro's library for the children's choir, synth pad, electric guitar and acoustic guitar harmonics, and 8dio's new Polyphon instrument for the bell-like sounds.
