Going Blind & Catching Up with Andrea Yu: An Interview with Jessica Jones by A Closer Look published on 2021-05-28T15:21:07Z A year after the start of a global pandemic, Andrea Yu, who is a student with City Access New York interning with A Closer Look Inc., spearheaded a series of interviews with characters from Going Blind (2010) to find out how they fared through a year of COVID-19 lockdown and where they are now in their sight-loss journeys. This week, Andrea spoke with Jessica Jones about her experiences teaching during the pandemic, how she's been since the film first aired, and how her guide dog Willie has been doing. Going Blind: Coming Out of the Dark About Vision Loss, a 2010 documentary film by Peabody Award-winning Director Joseph Lovett, tells the stories of everyday people and their heroic efforts they make to live in today’s world with vision loss. Lovett tells this story with a very personal appeal as he reveals his diagnosis of glaucoma, a disease that robs 4.5 million people worldwide of their vision. Since the theatrical release of Going Blind in 2010, and now in collaboration with our non-profit organization A Closer Look, we launched Going Blind and Going Forward, an outreach campaign through which we strive to convince gatekeeper ophthalmologists to refer patients with sight loss to low vision rehab early so that patients can make the most of their residual vision.
