As the series progresses, Selene's form takes on a more demonic appearance, her persona becomes more evil, and her whole aesthetic is as an elaborate parody of Scarlet Witch's designs from the X-Men comics. She also becomes more erratic and unpredictable, often getting angry at seemingly nothing. At one point, Selene briefly transformed into a black-robed version of her youthful self and spoke with the voice and body language of Magneto, giving her an appearance as if she were a member of his Kid Loki group. Along with some renegade Hellfire Club members, Storm confronts Magneto's group on Inhuman Island. Selene works with Magma and the Super-Skrull to free Vargason from his cell. Storm then surprises Selene, taking her on a trip down memory lane. Together, they enter the past, where Selene and Storm briefly travel back to the Hellfire Club's past, witnessing the death of William Stryker. They also see an alternate dimension in which the Hellfire Club's future self traveled back in time and killed Old Man Logan, and witness the future Hellfire Club member Lightmaster murdering Rogue.[33][34] After this, Selene is faced with the possibility that her past self moments ago witnessed her death and found that she will never be with her family again, being saved by her future self.[35]
Selene's past self makes Selene realize the importance of her family and later disappears before Selene can prevent her from going back in time, though the two continue to remain locked in each other's eyes. When Xavier's X-Men are preparing to confront the Hellfire Club in the present, Storm is captured and tortured, while the present Selene is reminded of the terrible things Sebastian Shaw's Hellfire Club has done and decides to sacrifice herself in order to hinder their plans. Though Selene is unaware of it, Sebastian had secretly overwritten Selene's memories of the event due to it defeating his overall goal, and as a result she mentally breaks free of Shaw's side of the team. In front of her, Sebastian pleads to her to return to Shaw and Shaw laughingly agrees, throwing both Selene and one of Shaw's goons back in time.
