Ghosts Before Breakfast by JonathanJWilson published on 2018-05-16T00:25:13Z "Ghosts Before Breakfast" is a metaphor for phantoms that linger in a composer’s mind before an early act of composition. These phantoms are metaphors for musical phenomena (e.g., melodies, harmonies, rhythms, etc.) floating around in a composer’s mind before being realized from abstraction to concretion. This composition is organized into three large sections based on different harmonic collections: atonal, quintal, and tertian. The pursuit of unity between ensemble and electronics is based on vertical, horizontal, and structural relationships through textures, harmonic spectra of the source material, gestures, and higher-level structural patterns that can be generally described as growth-decay patterns.
