The meaning of the name "Johnson" was derived from a Martin Amis article in The New Yorker June 26 and July 3rd edition, 1995. Traveling through the Mid-West on a book tour, Amis took note of the name Johnson attached to many things. Everyone is called Johnson, everything is called Johnson and everywhere is called Johnson: streets, creeks, forts, rivers. Another definition arose, and no, not the colloquial one, Johnson was also defined as a regular guy and stand-up American who honors his obligations. A Johnson minds his own business, but will give help when needed. So to be known as Johnson was high praise indeed;)
Johnsonandfriends emits sounds recorded by different projects whose common denominator is Jason Tribiano. Johnson is a collaboration between myself and Mark McQuillan, writing and recording, but never performing, since 1996, and still producing! Johnson mostly writes in the ostinato style. First to truly experiment was Miles Davis. The only main theme is that there are only two chords to the progression while the improvised melodies move between the two.
andfriends are other bands, recordings I've been involved with over the years.
