Oliver Hommage A Bruce Mather Premiere (excerpt) by John Oliver published on 2014-10-06T01:40:54Z I wrote this music to honour my mentor, Bruce Mather, master of microtonal music. The piece is for harp, and guitar tuned down one 1/4-tone. This allows me to explore the resonance of the "neutral second", an interval between a minor and major second. This is the interval heard between the 11th harmonic of the harmonic series and it's neighbours, the 10th and 12th harmonic. So this is "natural music" that is as "in tune" as the two instruments can manage. (For the microtonal fans, the thirds are still equal-tempered.)
