John Paul “JP” Glovasa is an Australian instrumental rock guitarist and multi-instrumentalist who has worked with various bands spanning in various genres from progressive hard rock, thrash metal, jazz, gospel RnB, J-pop/rock among others.
Beginning his musical life at the age of 9 playing organ, he had then switched to guitar at the age of 14. Soon after high school he joined alt-hard rock act Tachism on bass and keyboards with fellow music classmates from 1999 to 2004. During that time, Tachism had played through local gigs in Melbourne, namely supporting known bands like .hinge and Cog among others. In 2000 JP also joined gospel RnB band Az One Voice (2000 – 2004) playing guitar from an audition recommended by a friend. Az One Voice had also played various local gigs including concerts in the Camberwell Civic Centre and Melbourne Town Hall before eventually breaking up.
After the halt of band activities, in 2004, through former Tachism bandmate, JP joined thrash metal act 4arm as a lead guitarist. During JP’s nine year time with the band, 4arm had released three albums 13 Scars (2006), Empires Of Death (2010) and the commercial breakthrough Submission for Liberty (2012), which had earned endoresments with Ibanez Guitars and Peavey Amplifiers as well as high profile shows such as and Australian tours as headliners and with German thrash band Destruction, Download Festival in 2012 in UK, Hammerfest 2013 in Wales and a US tour with American thrash acts Testament, Overkill and Flotsam And Jetsam before exiting in 2013.
During 2004-2009, 4arm also doubled as a Metallica tribute show. Under the moniker Binge And Purge, the band had played various tribute shows with other known acts such as Kisstroyer, High Voltage and Appetite For Destruction among others.
In 2006, JP had joined fellow friends he had met during the Tachism gigging circuit and formed Vitruvian Man, a psychedelic prog rock band in which JP played both bass and keyboards. The band had begun gigging and touring through Melbourne and Sydney, then releasing their debut album The Stranger Within in 2012. Most recently, Vitruvian Man are currently recording a follow up, release date TBA.
In 2014, JP began to expand his musical pallet. He joined a jazz trio as a guitarist with vocalist Misaco Isono and Japanese band Immunoglogulin bassist Masayuki Matsumoto to perform Japanese jazz songs around Melbourne. Late that year, JP performed the bass guitar on Black Fuel/Rosie And The Mighty Kings guitarist/vocalist Chris Ball on his country/rock flavored solo album Carved In Sand. JP continues to perform with Chris Ball’s band on guitar and keyboards. A follow up album to Carved In Sand is also in the works.
After all the accumulated experience and exposure over the years, JP began to put together a bunch of guitar based instrumental songs written from 2005 to 2013 and began to record his debut solo album in 2015. Titled ‘Taking The First Step’, the album is scheduled to be released on April 1st 2016.
