Joels Ballad by Joel Pierson

This is an original tune called "Joel's Ballad" I put together on Kompoz along with the help from Willie Favero on Bass from Huston, Texas and Allen Conti from Cleveland Ohio.
I laid down the piano and tenor parts on separate tracks and invited Willie and Allen to add their parts. First takes were good but, needed a little discussion mostly where the rhythm changes from a 12/8 swing feel to a measure of straight 1/8th notes and back again. I had not thought about using that device before but, when I listened to my early drafts, the tune suggested it. Both players got the idea quickly and after a minimal time and practice, nailed the changes. Both these guys are very fun, cooperative and accomplished musicians to work with. I'm look forward to working with them again on some upcoming tunes I have in the works.
