[disquiet0257] Nancarrow's 808, As Observed by Critical Cyborgs by Equinox Deschanel (Joe McMahon) published on 2016-12-01T23:06:53Z Update: I forgot to turn on downloads! They're on now. I envision Conlon Nancarrow somehow having managed to produce a black MIDI score which he plays back on a rackful of 808's, while two grumpy robots comment to each other about how "this isn't the dance music from back in our day". I decided to use my track from the online 808 Junto from last year as the source; I'm trying to do stuff outside my comfort zone. After trying several different options, I found the Delayorama plugin in Audacity, which adds a nice set of cascading fixed delays. A number of iterations of this gave me the base track, which interestingly fades in and out of time with itself, but I thought this wasn't perhaps noisy enough. I copied the tracks and fiddled with the settings in GrainStreamer to come up with a granular texture with 1/2 to 1 second gestures, mostly falling in pitch for the robot voices.
