#OneThirdEmcee
Chicago, Illinois
Jovan Landry is a Chicago-based interdisciplinary artist. The "One-Third Emcee" is known for her articulate lyrics and energetic stage presence, matched with an androgynous-athletic swagger. Over a decade, Landry has self-released five projects, taught music workshops, and graced stages throughout the U.S and internationally. Jovan received the WeWork Creator Awards in 2017 to create Synergy; the first all-women produced, performed, and engineered hip-hop album, which furthers the point that women can co-exist in hip-hop. With its release, The Synergy Collective has hosted a Hip-Hop Technique Workshop Series for young women, has donated CDs to Universal Hip-Hop Museum archives, featured on Windy City Live, and the Women in Hip-Hop Conference at St. Louis University. Today, Jovan flexes her music production skill by releasing her first instrumental EP "World Vibe," as a dedication to the dance community, her hometown Chicago, and her travels to Nigeria, Haiti, and Cuba.
“Landry dominates the entirety of the stage, taking charge from song to song, playing off the building energy of her audience. Creating a performance that takes root in one’s mind for days later.” — Britt Julious, Chicago Tribune
“On the mic, she’s able to rock the crowd, & she can deliver some hard, urgent rhymes, but she can also switch it up and deliver on some quiet, intimate moments as well, and transition with ease into a more vulnerable delivery to match the lyrics.” — Chi Chi, Scratched Vinyl
"Her social consciousness and messages of empowerment are approached unflinchingly through her smooth flows and low, throbbing beats." — Erin "Rin" Davis, VOX ATL
“Her ambition and genuine drive to create authentic, humanized content is simply unmatched. A big fish in a small pond, it’s clear that Jovan is on the verge of new milestones. Not one to limit her ability to produce new and unique content, this first-ever instrumental release proves to lay a solid foundation for more to come.” — Marilyn Reles, Rockdafuqout
