Podquisition 21: Home Alone In Oddworld - With Guest Lorne Lanning! by Jimquisition published on 2015-04-16T14:09:29Z The gang are joined this week by a special guest - Oddworld mastermind Lorne Lanning! We chat about how going indie has helped creativity, confuse Gone Home with Home Alone, and naturally chat about Oddworld and Abe! We also discuss Mortal Kombat X's shameful DLC, free-to-play psychology, Laura's latest sex game, and Jim Sterling's ownage of Blighttown. Oh, and stick around for the ending, as we have an exclusive clip of Gavin's upcoming song based on Bloodborne! Forgive the audio quality this week. It's not terrible, but we had to make it a single call due to bringing in Lorne, so connections were a bit spotty. Genre The Jimquisition Comment by Dylan Blackler I love exodus so bloody much. i loved taking over the executives and xommanding the sligs around. god dam please port it guy i know this is like 3 years old but anyway 2018-07-13T11:30:40Z Comment by Dylan Blackler what what. where is exodus!! Howevera few images a VN do not make. Several other things that differentiate CoC and TiTS from VNs are commendable lack of lolis and the fact that ALL of the sexual content is optional If the serious discussion would ever to be had on any of this games, I would suggest the topic of open-mindedness. Both of those games make it very obvious that equal amounts of said open-mindedness can be derived from either depravity or empathy. 2015-04-25T19:13:01Z Comment by Stephen Butler 26 @user281038512: lol. I still love the crew here, but I'm a lot more skeptical now that she did that. 2015-04-23T23:51:04Z Comment by Beaux @stephen-butler-29: Funnily enough that is exactly what my brother said about Fallout # when I asked him what he thought. He said somthing along the like of "I'm like 3 hours in and nothing happens, you just walk around as a todler and talk to people." Needless to say I laughed at him for being an idiot. 2015-04-22T04:37:17Z Comment by Meridia You skipped CoC and went straight to TiTS? Shame on you Laura! Play Corruption of Champions next. 2015-04-20T08:06:35Z Comment by Preston Humphrey Quick comment, the thing on the front of the Fornax magazine in Mass Effect is a Hanar... not an Asari. No idea how you got that idea there. 2015-04-18T03:42:00Z Comment by Natalove loved lorne! more pls 2015-04-17T20:33:54Z Comment by Jimmy Page Continuing from my last comment. The Gameplay of Gone Home has little to no progression or learning, it's very simplistic like a hidden object game. So were saying the game Roger Ebert would praise has the story of a trashy 1980 Lesbian erotica book and the gameplay of a Dollar store budget game. Want to see a really well done Lesbian character in games ? Look up Rosa Rodriguez in Defiance the MMO, she's a damn well done character and avoids almost all cliches. In film terms Gone Home is the video game equivalent of the film Kaboom, the only reason it gets praise seemingly is OMG Diversity without actually looking further into the game and analysing it. 2015-04-17T14:39:35Z Comment by Jimmy Page Ok I'm normally someone who doesn't comment and just listens to this this show but this talk on Gone Home has compelled me to comment. Roger Ebert would laugh Gone Home out the the room. Hopefully I can explain why. In 1992 there was a Canadian Documentary film called Forbidden Love: The Unashamed Stories of Lesbian Lives which explored the impact of Lesbian fiction upon the LGBT community, the film opened with a spoof parody short about two lesbians running away to be together very much like Gone Home the short was mocking how cliche this story trope had become in 1992. Gone Home's story could almost have been ripped from a Lesbian pulp fiction story of the 1980s. So to Praise Gone Home as some masterful video games story is to say the best games can do is the level of a 1980s trashy (Pulp) Lesbian novel. If you then disregard the story the gameplay of game home has little to no progression or learning, it's a quite simple hidden object game where you take Object A to B and progress 2015-04-17T14:32:37Z Comment by Jaro Black You guys remeber the blind man beating Abes Exodus by just listening to the Sound Cues? Awesome achievement 2015-04-17T12:05:27Z Comment by Josh Rowell you can tell she didnt even get past character creation and is making half of this up :/ 2015-04-17T07:50:55Z Comment by Orko80 still waiting for pc version of reddeaad redemption :/ 2015-04-17T06:17:41Z Comment by Stephen Butler 26 @user893707076: It's like if she played Fallout 3, then reviewed it by saying it's a game where you live as a baby in a vault. 2015-04-17T04:51:15Z Comment by Stephen Butler 26 @user893707076: Kinda makes me doubt what she says about other similar games, if she only played a few minutes of this one. I mean, the game can have an INSANE amount of playtime, if you're ok with text quests, and you don't mind the occasional random save wipe. 2015-04-17T04:50:40Z Comment by Stephen Butler 26 @user893707076: I was laying in bed while listening to the podcast, and as soon as she started talking about TiTS I got excited. Then I realized how horribly off she was, and I went downstairs to type this. 2015-04-17T04:48:03Z Comment by Stephen Butler 26 @wardie-sarah-evra-smith: Great games. Fenoxo knows what he is doing. Especially with the easter eggs, like the TF2 one in CoC. 2015-04-17T04:46:27Z Comment by Stephen Butler 26 Laura played TiTS for like 4 minutes. You don't play with the old guy. The point of choosing a partner in the biginning of the game is to choose the species of the ACTUAL playable character for later. Then, you go out on an RPG. There is combat, and trust me, there are more than just ladies. 2015-04-17T04:43:40Z Comment by Wardie Sarah Evra Smith @user893707076: i actually played coc and TiTs and theyre pretty good (go ahead... judge me) 2015-04-17T02:16:06Z Comment by Kruziik_Kel The rib removed thing still goes around, its Marylin Manson these days though 2015-04-17T01:38:36Z Comment by user893707076 Complete misrepresentation of coc and tits. a) there are no pictures in them, hence no visual novel. b) they are much more interactive than any visual novel. (Complete combat-system gear and exploration for example) c) you can play who/whatever you want. the rich guy at the start is your father choosing your genes. in advanced 'gamer language' this is called character-creation. This game obviously was not even played past the intro-screen. d) there is no game a genderdiverse, open, inclusive and accepting as this one. Something from which "non filth games" can still learn a lot. Actually: if this part of the podcast would be better researched then a serious discussion of tits and coc could in some ways be as mature and serious as anything else. 2015-04-16T21:43:05Z Comment by Konzi GRRRREAT podcast. 2015-04-16T19:03:15Z Comment by Milos Vilic You should stop using skype... 2015-04-16T18:49:46Z Comment by Raven Smith THANK YOU ALL!!
