Born in Madrid in the late seventies, Joseph A. Ortiz was always fascinated by urban and electronic music since making his first contact with it as a little boy. At the age of 16 and overcoming the obstacles that appeared in his way, Joseph began his career as “DJ Jhose”, and since then has become one of the most requested DJs in the booths of the best clubs in Madrid, Spain.
His talent did not go unnoticed by the media and in 1996 began working on "La Ruta Del Aguilar" radio show hosted by Los 40 Principales announcer, Tony Aguilar, one of the most important radio personalities in Spain. From the beginning, Jhose acquired prominence on aire, becoming the official DJ and co-host of this popular black music program which lead the nation in broadcast audience for more than a decade. Thanks to the program`s success, DJ Jhose also was a regular figure for two seasons on the television version of the radio program called “40 TV” while spinning at parties all over the country on tour promoting "La Ruta".
Over the years, DJ Jhose continued to appear in the media consolidating himself as one of the main disseminators of urban sound. For four seasons, he produced and directed the radio program "European Vibe", aired in Madrid on Evolution FM. Cadena 100 also counted on Jhose´s talent for their daily on-aire national newspaper program, "Urban Black Line" as well as on television, as he starred alongside Sergio Alcover on the hit series "Fama" for Cuatro television.
Thanks to his dedication and comittment, DJ Jhose has continued to grow as a professional over the years, sharing the stage with historical hip hop artists of international stature such as Grandmaster Flash, Biz Markie and Tony Touch. His name has become synonymous with recognition and respect, and has grown to be one of the most sought after DJs in the Spanish music scene.In addition, Jhose has played at festivals and private presentations for a long list of stars like Will Smith, Alicia Keys, Justin Timberlake, Craig David, Redman, Pitbull and Jason Derulo, among many others.
In 1999, the Spaniard formed part of the Cuban group Orishas (who won Latin Grammy for best hip-hop group) and toured the world to present their debut album "A lo cubano", an album that reached platinum in Spain. Similarly, during his accomplished career DJ Jhose also shared the spotlight along with Daddy Yankee at the presentation in Madrid, Spain of his LP "BarrioFino" (which sold over a million copies worldwide and won two Grammy awards in 2005).He was also the featured DJ at the Cultura Urbana Music Festival in 2007 and 2008, spinning in front of an audience of 33,000.
In his curriculum Jhose has also made appearances for multinational brands such as MTV (where he debuted the DVD of R&B star “Usher”), Reebok (campaign "I Am What I Am" with Real Madrid star, “Iker Casillas”), and Hugo Boss (presentation of their Limited Spray Edition). He also appeared for Universal Music as the record label's official DJ on their compilation “Misión Urbana”.
Finally, it is inevitable to talk about his influence and importance in the panorama of Spanish clubs. Jhose has appeared in sessions in clubs all over the country like Dreamers in Marbella and Jamboree in Barcelona ..., also emphasizing his presence in the most prestigious clubs in Madrid like Kapital with Supermartxé, Pacha, Joy Eslava, La Riviera ..., and not to mention international tours throughout Europe.
Undoubtedly, we have encountered one of today´s most influential DJ's who understands the development of urban music in our country, and is a pioneer to merge them with electronic sounds that work on the dance floor.
