KITSUNÉ SOLEIL selected and mixed by Gildas & Jerry Bouthier
It’s summertime! and French label extraordinaire Kitsuné is celebrating the best time of year with a solar mixed cd out July the 4th 2012.
Packed with sun-drenched vibes to die for, ‘Kitsuné Soleil’ is very much a musical invitation to lazy about, relax by the pool with a cocktail in hand and enjoy the moment thanks to a judicious selection of hot new tunes as only Kitsuné comes up with. Some of them forthcoming on the prestigious Parisian imprint (Citizens!, Moonlight Matters, Hey Today, Gigamesh, Housse de Racket, RAC, Plastic Plates, Rufus), some of them simply right for this gorgeous mix (Metronomy, M83, Charlotte Gainsbourg, The Rapture, Friendly Fires, Adamski, Jupiter). Inspired by carefree holidays, hedonist nights out and sunkissed romance this fiery yet sensuous soundtrack is ideal to watch the sun go down on the beach or even to paraglide over wild mountains.
Conceived and mixed by Kitsuné’s boss Gildas Loaec and longtime collaborator Jerry Bouthier, the French dj/producer relocated in London who was behind the ‘Kitsuné BoomBox’ and ‘Kitsuné Ponyste’p cd mixes, ‘Kitsuné Soleil’ is a 1h mixtape you can either party with or chill to. Gildas, who never fails to rock the party and put it on its knees, provided his renowned flair and expertise in order to secure some exciting new sounds, whereas Jerry, Vivienne Westwood’s sound designer and half of balearic duo JBAG, brings his stylish, uplifting vision to the mix. And once again Kitsuné sets the tone, covering indie-dance, quirky pop, electrodisco and more that 2012 has to offer. A classy, danceable mood that’s also fun and sexy.
The association of Gildas the fox (for those who still wonder Kitsuné means fox in Japanese) and Jerry the mouse (who used to dj with his brother Tom R.I.P.) is inevitably a rewarding pun, strong of their respective experience and solid tastes these two know a thing or two about what makes people tick on the dancefloor or in the comfort of their home.
An energizing ray of musical sunshine bringing stylish vibes to your swimming pool, 'Kitsune Soleil' is this summer's feelgood mix cd.
TRACK BY TRACK COMMENTS BY JERRY
1. Moon Boots ft Violetness ‘Running From’
“Not much is known of Moon Boots, yet after the success of his Scritti Politti-sampling ‘Aretha’ he’s become a producer to watch. The sultry ‘Running From’ - a carefree ode to happiness? - perfectly kicks off this breezy mix.’
2. Citizens! ‘Reptile (Goldroom remix)’
“Kitsuné’s latest protégés Citizens! are another striking discovery. Smart and funny these Londoners make ambitious indie music that’s ready to take on the world. It’s energizing to come across a young bunch that has the guts to write imaginative pop music, and who does it with soul and integrity.”
3. Pharaoh Black Music ft Ghosttape 'Hermes'
“Originally hailing from Basel, Switzerland, and now set up in Berlin, this promising duo combines indie and balearic in one enchanted spell. Songs you can dance to and at the same time feel for or get touched by, a precious balance many aim at but few successfully manage.”
4. Jupiter ‘One O Six (A.N.D.Y. remix)’
“It’s already been a few singles since Jupiter’s entered our lives and what a nice difference it’s made. Amélie’s mousey vocals are simply to cute to ignore. A.N.D.Y. aka ex-Mustang Andy Faisca does wonders with their new single and turns it into an unstoppable anthem.”
5. Gigamesh ‘Your Body (JBAG remix)’
“After Europe and Japan, Kitsuné is now exploring the USA’s hottest music scenes and hooking up with some of the best talents out there (as seen on the recent Kitsuné America compilation). Here DiscoTech’s Gigamesh gets reinterpreted by JBAG my studio project with Andrea Gorgerino. ‘Your Body’ is a big, effective house tune which we slowed down and tried to funk up a notch.”
6. Moonlight Matters ‘Come For Me (Jerry’s dub)’
“Sebastiaan Vandevoorde aka Moonlight Matters is another inspired Belgian luminary soon leaving its mark on quality pop music. This studio obsessive’s sound and melodies are unique; after tons of remixes, he finally drops his long-awaited debut single ‘Come For Me’ - unlike anything else at the moment.”
7. Logo 'Jacob'
“Logo are the French Chemical Brothers… or something like that. Hughes et Thomas infuse erudit - almost rock - energy into electronic music. They secretly dream of turning into rave meisters. »
8. Housse de Racket 'Château (JBAG remix)’
“I like to think that Housse de Racket, Pierre Leroux and Victor Le Masne’s band, will be the next French band to follow in the footsteps of Phoenix of make it big across the globe. They share with them modesty, professionnalism… and a definte talent for compostion. One of my fave JBAG remixes… never fails to move me.”
9. Metronomy 'Everything Goes My Way (Psychemagik remix)’
“Joseph Mount usually provides the vocals in Metronomy, it’s his band after all, but this time it’s Roxanne Clifford who does the honours. London’ Psychemagik gives it a deep girly twist.”
10.Rufus ‘Talk To Me’
“New Sydney band Rufus has got Kitsuné written all over it. Poppy, ravey, rocky, synthy… great song. Can’t wait to hear more.”
11.Charlotte Gainsbourg ‘Anna (Moonlight Matters)’
“Two Moonlight Matters productions in the same mix?! Well his single is a club screamer and this remix is more on a nostalgic pop tip. He’s one of the few that can join the dots between the two, so why not?”
12.RAC ft Penguin Prison ‘Hollywood (Felix Da Housecat remix)’
“We’ve been following RAC for quite a while. Another typically Kitsuné US producer, he puts keyboard lines all over indie songs and it works. One of our heroes Felix de Housecat gets on the mix for a rockin’ rerub.”
13.Adamski ‘I Like It (ATTAR! remix)’
“Electro’s original master Adamski is back on dancefloors! In fact he never went away but he sure has killer tunes right now, so I signed him to my label Continental. ATTAR! delivers the soon-to-be big anthemic remix.”
14.Plastic Plates l’imparable 'Toys'
“Plastic Plates is Felix Bloxsom, an Aussie based in Los Angeles. How would we describe the unstoppabe ‘Toys’? Rave funk? We love it.”
15.The Rapture 'Sail Away' (Cut Copy remix)’
“An alliance made in heaven. Luke Jenner’s plaintive voice over Cut Copy’s beats and piano breakdown, yum!”
16.Hey Today '83'
“Gildas loves this lot. It’s slowed down techno, just like new-beat. The way forward for most djs, there’s no question. Where else is there left to go when the charts have got crazy banging?”
17.Like Whoa 'Looking At You (Noctural Edition)’
“A sweet eurodisco track from Down Under – of all places!”
18.Friendly Fires 'Hurting (Tensnake remix)’
“One of the best British bands around gets finely remixed by the mighty Tensnake. Indie-dance heaven.”
19.Reflex ‘Wavering (JBAG remix)’
“The debut on my label Continental of a great duo from south of France remixed by JBAG. One of the most playlisted remixes Andrea and I have done.”
20.M83 ‘Midnight City (Trentemoller remix)’
“We’ve loved M83 for years but this one’s really nailed it for them. And with Trentemoller on board, it was perfect to end the mix in psychedelic mode.”
