It all happened so suddenly, so it seems as now everybody is like family. Early 2011, JBEZ, who had been part of another group, released his first solo project entitled “THE RISE OF JBEZ”. The project had minor success, and due to an unfortunate turn of events, JBEZ decided to make a group of his own. JBEZ connected with YUNG ISO, and DREDRE (which are his younger brothers) to reform a group that had be put on the back burner called the SMASH BOYZ. In searching for a recording studio, STU B., another brother, suggested that they try out a not so public studio, operated by BEEMER BROOMHILL. BEEMER BROOMHILL, who was working on branding his own group, already had TONIO and A-TRAIN which formed BROOMHILL MUSIC. The two teams finally met, it was the end of summer and they were anxious to get to work. STU B. joined the group and they laid down their first single called “BBGW” (bad bitches/good weed). By midwinter, they decided on a brand name that would join the two groups, REBELNATION would be the fan base, REBEL ENT. would be the label, and RENTGANG would be the unified group with BROOMHILL MUSIC and SMASH BOYZ under its umbrella.
RENTGANG is a mixture of different races, backgrounds, and back stories, melting the multitude of differences into one, like a pot of gumbo in music form. This gumbo blend is new with new flavors. So far the general consensus is that the new gumbo is extremely great! But just like all great things, it takes time to perfect it. RENTGANG incorporates different genres like POP, HIP HOP, ROCK, RnB, DUB STEP, HOUSE, and even COUNTRY and GOSPEL. Each member brings his own story and perspective to music in a day where the majority of artists seem to have the same outlook. With a name such as REBEL it’s to no surprise if this group may oppose the current system of things. It’s not that they rebel against justly systems it’s the injustice that creates so much violence and destruction. Like Bob Marley, Tupac, Rakim and many other artists, RENTGANG knows how to party and yet deal with the struggles of modern society.
RENTGANG as a whole are inspired by many, many great artists such as: TECH NINE and the whole STRANGE MUSIC family – SUGARHILL GANG – ERIC B. N RAKIM – LL COOL J – TUPAC – BIGGIE – NAS – JAY Z – and many more known and unknown artist. After hearing RENTGANG’s first complete project critics described it as conscience, innovative, golden era mixed with new school, dramatic, clever, witty, funny, classic from the future, and many other great things.
In one full year RENTGANG has performed live dozens of times, and each time gets better and better. With only a few head liners, the highlight of live performances came March 2013 when RENTGANG opened up for national recording artist BUBBA SPARXXX in Cleveland Oh. There were an estimated 200 attendees, and performances from RENTGANG kept 90% of the crowd interested in hearing unknown tracks. After the 15min set was up, it was reported that the RENTGANG group had great stage demeanor, originality, and exceptional mic choreography in spite of having 6 active artists.
RENTGANG has a deep catalogue of music ranging from Pop to Dub-step. The group released its first project entitled “RENTGANG THE MIXTAPE” in spring 2013. This project has various versions due to not being able to settle on a one solid version because of such a deep catalogue. BROOMHILL MUSIC is set to release a project entitled “WHERES WEIRDO” by midsummer 2013. JBEZ is set to release a project entitled “THE RETURN OF JBEZ” the fall of 2013. There will also be projects from SMASH BOYZ, YUNG ISO, A-TRAIN, STU B., and TONIO in 2013 – 2014.
