Jayson “J.B. da Poet” Brown
Jayson Ezell Brown was born is Houston, Texas to Ezell Brown, Jr. and Verra Joyce Ford Brown. During his early childhood, Jayson’s parents instilled in him the values of hard work and self-discipline. Thus Jayson was involved in several extracurricular activities to keep him focused.
At the age of seven, he began studying martial arts (Northern Shaolin Praying Mantis Kung Fu). This sport taught him self defense, self discipline, and the appreciation of focused mental and physical precision. Kung Fu came easily to Jayson and he earned many awards and trophies up to and beyond brown belt level status.
By the age of twelve, Jayson found an interest in team sports- football, basketball, and baseball. Although he was gifted in all three sports, he began experiencing “ growing pains” as he delt with the new temptation of adolescence in middle/ high school. Jayson failed to reach his full potential in team sports nor did he shine academically even though intelligence test proved that he was well above average.
After graduation from high school. Jayson found it difficult to find his niche in school, the armed forces or the work place. But, dealing with the constant trials and tribulations brought on by his ability to achieve in life, brought a new and exiting love into Jayson’s life. That love is music, He found that writing and recording music was a wonderful source of inspiration as well as a great escape from the day to day stress of life.
With this new outlet as his major focus, he recorded his first song in 2002 with his long-time friend and business partner Jamin Fishback. Together they own Souf’Paw Records.
Established in 2008, Souf’Paw gets it’s name from the fact that both of its founders , Jayson and Fishback are left handed. Believing in passionate music and expressing true thoughts in his own music Brown decided to stage his name as “da Poet” which stands for “da pedigree of everyday truth.” With one project completed titled “The Movement”, a compilation directed by him and Fishback, “da Poet” has surrounded himself around a unique group of individuals that possess a great deal of talent as musicians. Ronald “Bam” Hearne for Bam Entertainment guided da Poet through early growing pains in music and appears on “The Movement” for several features. Currently Brown is attending Houston Community College majoring in audio engineering as well working on his first solo album titled “Back to Screw’s House.” Back to Screw’s House will feature artist such as Real Talc (Fishback), King James, Rob Jay of the Art life Movement, Butch for New Start Entertainment, Staso for 42 Productions and many more. Motivated for success Brown continues to attack the industry by grass rooted marketing schemes, blog sites, press ups and all and any sources needed to accomplish his goal.
