Since February 4th, 2010, "Jay Hart," a solo project by Josiah Hart has been on the rise, as well as the sole artist behind it. Promotion, writings, recordings, production, all have been done by the former.
After a very experimental 9-song, self-titled EP of rockier, energetic and upbeat songs with catchy lyrics, guitar work, etc a different avenue was taken. Sparkling songs like "Found My Way," reasoned ways of finding an artist's way into a listener's head. "Hit The Floor," revealed an interesting insight into our artist's head, as he feels his lowest and has 'hit the floor,' so to speak. This song's aggressive music style opens the listener's ability to see the different styles/influences in his life. "Crimes," is another such song, aggressive but still an insight into the artist's various influences, as well as his conversational, deep writing styles. This song speaks about one who "stole his heart, killed him with a touch," yet, "While these crimes define the times, it's you I find on my mind."
While not many of these songs will be brought back, a few of the songs from this EP carried forward as they suited the sound that Jay had discovered and dreamed of pursuing. These songs include "Split," "Don't Leave Me Here" and "Crimes."
After the self-titled EP was received for over a year and a few shows were played, a few CD's sold and a little publicity was gained, Jay decided to begin work on the 2nd release, a full 12-track CD. All the while, his influences were growing, thanks to new bands and a new, wider music library.
This CD would later be called, "For When It Gets Hard To Breathe." It was widely received and many favorite tracks were found, all much more solidified as a general sound was found and created by Jay's newfound music style. This CD was written in a perfect Minnesota summer of 2011 and finished in a winter spent home in Missouri.
From the very beginning of the release, "For When It Gets Hard To Breathe," the "Intro" captivates the attention of the listener. With it's dark-tones and mysterious writings begin this wonderful listen of a CD. Songs that catch particular attention include the 2012 versions of "Don't Leave Me Here" and "Split," the ballad "Impossible," the musically minimalist "Always On My Mind," the CD's slow-down about a beautiful summer spent in Minnesota "This Summer," the one song with somber tones about trying to stay away from a hurting relationship, yet knowing this "Late-Night Longing" has Jay. The 2nd song, "City Life," is the most triumphant of these. Jay describes a life he'd come to love, with no previous knowledge that it'd become everything he'd everything he'd ever wanted.
The 2nd CD was released just before summer 2012, after Jay returned to Minneapolis, MN...his home.
NOW, Jay continues and begins work on the 3rd CD, which has been titled, "Reaching The End Where I Begin." With new influences and a now, solidified musical direction, he blows us away with his new CD's intro, which he posted live on Soundcloud and Myspace in September 2012. "Rumored tracks" and writings have been known, through Reverbnation. Such expected songs are "Shatter" and "Yesterday." Those who have heard samples of Jay's new work, place it as Coldplay-meets-The-Weeknd-meets-The-Script-meets-Maroon-5-meets-John-Mayer.
Immense guitar work and sounds, driving piano with articulate synth/keys overlaps, deep bass and drums that accent the feelings throughout the entire CD's recording process have been called, "some of my best," "my shining egg" and "exactly the avenue I want to be heading in" by Jay, when asked about recent findings during the recording/writing process.
"It's not necessarily too different from the last CD, but there's new aspects of music I have been exploring so much, lately. A lot of different sounds guitar-wise, as well. I've really sort of become one with my guitar lately. It indicates everything the song is about and I felt during the writing process. This CD is honestly going to be the most absolute depiction of everything my music has been to me, everything I've felt after this much time in life and it will be the CD that gets the most heads turning. Don't get me wrong, I loved the last CD...but this one has me feeling lost in this wide open street I'm taking to where I want to be. There's an ocean of possibilities and I feel that now with this new CD. Where there's new possibilities, there's new opportunities and I'm using every one I have to grow into this mold I've fit for myself. And so far, it's leaving me speechless. This new CD will show people what I've got and show them what I have to offer at the same time. I know you guys will love it!" - Jay
