“By The Park” is a song about my daughter’s journey growing up as she is about to leave the pre-school she spent much of her life going to, and move on to “big school” next year. I wanted to capture her sense of wonder and adventure as she learned and discovered something new every day. The joy and love from the bonds she built with her friends and teachers as they played together every day. The raw emotions she was feeling and only just beginning to understand and can barely control. This age was where some of the earliest and most precious memories I have of my own childhood were from as well. This song was influenced a lot by one of my daughter’s favourite songs, Taylor Swift’s “The Best Day” where she sings about being 5 years old. “By The Park” is also the name of my daughter’s pre-school.

Oooh, by the park, we’re going by the park
Oh yeah, by the park, we’re going by
Today we’re going by the park
To play with friends until it’s dark
Learn ABCs and 123s
Play sticks and stones and climb the trees
Make pictures of our favourite things
We always learn new songs to sing
Run up the hill slide down again
Jump all around in the garden
Oooh, by the park, we’re going by the park
Oh yeah, by the park, we’re going by
Today we’re going by the park
To play with friends until it’s dark
Play piano, dance hip hop
We shake our bums don’t wanna stop
Race motorcycles and fire engines
Build castles and fly aeroplanes
We’ll always keep imagining
Adventuring, discovering
Oooh, by the park, we’re going by the park
Oh yeah, by the park, we’re going by the
Oooh, by the park, we’re going by the park
Oh yeah, by the park, we’re going by
We’re moving on to big school next year
We’ll miss our friends and teachers here
We promise to keep you in our hearts
Until we next meet by the park
Alas it’s time to go home now
So tired and it’s getting dark
Can’t wait for tomorrow to come right now
So we can go play by the park
Oooh, by the park, we’re going by the park
Oh yeah, by the park, we’re going by the park
Oooh, by the park, we’re going by the park
Oh yeah, by the park, we’re going by the park
