James Marcus Smith was born in Houston Texas on 6 November 1938 and has been living in the UK for the main part of his life. He started writing songs as a kid, when at military academies. Upon turning 18 he moved to Hollywould and changed his name to Jett Powers. In 1961 he signed to Liberty Records as P.J. Proby and to their publishing arm Metric Music as a songwriter under his own name James Marcus Smith. He wrote many many songs through the years, of whisch ±300 are registered with BMI.
