my shadow and my self by James Whittle published on 2013-06-05T23:30:50Z Scene for baritone and piano Composed March 2013 Premiered by Robert Rice (baritone) and William Vann (piano), for whom the work was written, at the Late Music Concert Series, York, 6th April 2013 VIDEO with score: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3uceNzRxPqU, with thanks to incipitsify. The title is taken from the end of the second part of 'Winter', a poem from Ursula Vaughan Williams’s 1948 collection, Need for Speech. The poem speaks of cold loneliness, a desperately mad love. The third and final part is set here, full of revealing oxymorons, absurd images, and burning questions. There is a lot of 'you' in the poem.
