Joshua Torres, better known as rapper JAE-O, was born in Harlem, NY 20 years ago and has been perfecting his craft for over a decade, more than half his life. "Rap is the only thing I know."
Being half black and half Puerto Rican, JAE-O had a true understanding of the cultures, and with an array of influences like 50 Cent, J.Cole, Kanye and Drake, he was inspired to start rapping at the tender age of just seven. JAE-O put his heart into his music, with a die- hard passion making his flow unique and effortless.
Although music had his soul at a young age, Bronx-raised JAE-O, came from extremely humble beginnings which forced him to entertain the streets, especially after his father was sentenced to life in prison. Feeling responsible to provide for his family, JAE-O led a street grind that almost left him for dead multiple times. "Coming up in my area, being one of seven kids, constantly harassed by police, it's hard to do good, but easy to do bad."
Overcoming near death situations, JAE-O started to put his time and effort into his dream. He started recording with a line of producers which include, One Delivery Boy, Joe Petruccio, Apollo 97, JP Sounds and more. He has a work ethic that won't allow him to quit and being signed with Banginproductions, makes this a win/win path of success.
JAE-O and seasoned industry producer/manager Bang, CEO of Banginproductions, met two years ago when Bang was listening to beats with another artist while parked on 145th Street in Harlem. JAE-O walked directly into the ambiance of their conversation and asked if he could spit some verses and the rest is history.
"He's like a cross between Meek, Fab and Future with a touch of Kiss. Also, his voice, his delivery and his freestyles on the spot, he's a real artist." - Bang
On being signed with Banginproductions, JAE-O states, "I got good music and Bang knows what to do with it."
His creativity and versatile flow is laced all over his new single, "Call Gang on Them," which drops, Tuesday, June 5th. Besides aiming to work with Pharell, J.Cole, Jadakiss, and The Weekend, JAE-O's five year plan is simple, "to own the Billboards and be up there with the best that ever did it.
