Banger of the Month - Bangarang DJ Q&A:
1).When was that “ah ha” moment when you realized DJing was what you wanted to do?
It is something I’ve known I wanted to pursue for a few years now. After being involved with the electronic music, party, and burner scenes and surrounded by creativity and incredible DJ talent regularly, I was inspired to actually go after it. With an extreme passion for the music, confidence in my taste, and a little push from friends, I bought myself a controller about 6 months ago and started learning. Music has always been a part of my life. I grew up singing and performing in musical theatre at an early age. I’ve always gone to shows and was the person creating playlists for parties, controlling music in the car, and sharing my musical finds among friends. So, I sort of think I have always been a DJ. Now I’m actually able to take an active role and not just be an active fan. It’s really exciting for me!
2.) Have you gone through multiple genres in order to end up spinning what you do now or did you know what you wanted to play from the start?
Being such a new DJ, I’m definitely still defining my personal style. Eventually, I would love to be able to incorporate many different styles of music. Right off the bat, I knew I wanted to play House music though. I am madly in love with it. It never goes out of style, there are so many incredible subgenres, and it’s so much fun to play.
3.) What about DJing do you love and what can you completely do without?
There is so much I love about it: making people dance, connecting with people and being able to show a bit of my soul through music, altering sounds, digging for tracks, learning, and of course bumpin’, loud beats 24/7! I could do without the annoying vinyl vs. digital debates as well as DJ’s with extremely large egos. The double-edged sword is being a new girl DJ in a still very male dominated world. It’s just as exciting as it is challenging, but it can be difficult when you have to work twice as hard to prove yourself right from the get-go. It motivates me!
4.) What was the name process when deciding what your DJ name would be? Was a nickname you’ve been given your whole life or something funny someone named you at a party ect.?
It has actually been a difficult decision for me. There were many outliers. I ended up with Jackie G (for now, haha). My thought process was if I can’t choose…Why am I not just being myself?
5.) Please describe, in as much detail as possible, the most embarrassing moment in your life.
My biggest to date was in middle school. I got a leading role in a summer musical. I had to sing an entire solo song. During the show, I froze and forgot the words. I was just standing there mumbling the song while beat red in the face. The director had to sing along with me to help me remember. Mortifying!
6.) What has been your favorite Bangarang party so far and why?
Sparkly as F*ck,, easily! I opened and it was my debut set. It was a very special night for me. I also like shine things…. A LOT.
7.) How huge do you rage it?
After party > Party
