Nataraj & Pineapple
Illuminati is an Italian word that means “enlightened ones."
Bringing light to dark through music, Illuminati is an LA/NYC-based avant-pop duo formed by “Nataraj” Herbie Tribino & Stephanie “Pineapple” Carlisi. While their name is loosely inspired by a tongue and cheek reference to the cult "conspiracy" theory of a “deep state” or "shadow" government, more specifically they use the word in the glory of its lightness.
After years of writing and producing for other artists, Nataraj and Pineapple are now emerging as recording artists. Their musical sensibilities fuse infectiously into a progressive pop urban electronic dance flow that moves the body, mind & soul with hard-hitting beats and a sound that’s all their own.
Nataraj, a multi-instrumentalist, was the musical director for P.M. Dawn and has produced extensively for Nile Rodgers (Chic, David Bowie, Madonna, Daft Punk). Nataraj has worked with such artists as Maroon 5, George Michael and Lenny Kravitz. The Bee Gees chose Nataraj to perform his remix of “Staying Alive” on stage with them at the VH1 Fashion Awards at Madison Square Garden.
Pineapple has worked broadly in the entertainment industry for years (Paramount, Showtime, CBS). She is a prolific published author, screenwriter, and lyricist. Her artistic path led her into music when JD Souther (Eagles, Linda Ronstadt, James Taylor) hired her to transcribe his lyric journals for an upcoming album, a task that sparked her passion for songwriting. Pineapple spent time co-writing at Brandon’s Way Recording, the studio of Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds, with hit-makers such as Antonio Dixon (Alicia Keys, Beyoncé, Justin Timberlake).
Illuminati's logo, custom-created by NYC graffiti artist and legendary hip-hop graphic designer Cey Adams (Def Jam Recordings, Beastie Boys, Public Enemy, Jay-Z), married with powerful images shot by pioneer hip-hop photographer Janette Beckman (Salt-N-Pepa, LL Cool J, Public Enemy), reflects the duo's shed-light-on-truth philosophy. They have begun this movement with a desire to empower the people to empower themselves. “It’s time for makin’ love not war.”
