A Year In Sound 2017 (Disquiet0313) by ikjoyce published on 2017-12-28T21:57:10Z The Assignment: Create a sonic diary of the past year with a dozen five-second segments. I had a busy year with lots of releases. I released 7 albums and an EP, as well as a collaboration with Glenn Sogge, a live performance in the Old Church, Stoke Newington, (a recording of which was released by Naviar Records), I also provided a track for an Electronic Music Philosophy group release, and a release from a Lines community challenge on the theme of Solstice. My segments were: January: My first patch of 2017 - which later went on to be used as 'The Insomniac' in my album 'Dramatis Personae' February: A track that was originally called 'Vangelish', which was renamed as 'The Returning Sun' for the mini album 'Tinsel' March: A track 'Chiaroscuro' which was used on my album 'Introspection/Retrospection; April: 'Nachklang Zwei' - a track made in response to a piece by Glenn Sogge - we went on to produce a 5-track collaboration called "Nachklang" May: I recorded some modular synth drones onto a 4 track cassette, and then had a jam with my synths. This was then used as the title track on the album 'Agitation & Ataraxy' June: 'The Hypnotist's Watch' - used as the first track for 'Agitation & Ataraxy' July: The Light From a Paper Lantern - a Disquiet Junto piece, also used on Agitation & Ataraxy August: 'Not A day Passes' - a Naviar Haiku piece that was used on the album 'Tinsel' September: Cassini Signing Off - a piece to commemorate the end of the Cassini mission October: A short snippet of me reading one of the haiku as part of my live performance at the Naviar Haiku Fest. My 15 year old cat Gustav was ill at the time, and died the following week. I still miss him greatly. November: Phase Shift (Electronic version) - a piece written for the Electronic Music Philosophy group challenge. Initially scored for traditional instruments, but recorded using most of my synths for this version. December: Winter Solstice - an orchestral piece for the Lines community Solstice challenge - written in the unusual time signature of 7/4, with a funeral march opening / coda, with a short three part canon in the middle.
