2016: A Year In Sound (Disquiet0261) by ikjoyce

This week's Disquiet Junto is the annual 'Journal' - take 12 5-second snippets of sound, one for each month, and cut them together with no overlaps or crossfades.

My months are:
January: The Air Around The Butterfly - The title is from a poem by Katerina Stoykova Klemer:
“How to Write a Poem / Catch the air / around the butterfly.”
February: If We Believe In Nothing - The title is part of a line from Albert Camus' "The Rebel" - “If we believe in nothing, if nothing has any meaning and if we can affirm no values whatsoever, then everything is possible and nothing has any importance.”
March: Returned To The Aethyr - This was written in response to the death of my old penpal (who gave me the 'one eyed Bob' sticker I use as my logo). I had almost made contact again after a number of years, and really regret losing touch.
April: Silence Arrives - This was my entry for the Naviar Haiku 118.
May: The Sea Otter - This was my entry for Disquiet 0229 and is the piece of musique concrete I am most happy with.
June: Krell Trio For Synthesized Flute, Trombone and Tuba - My take on the Krell patch by Todd Barton.
July: Post Migraine Creativity Experiment - Exactly what it says. I get a migraine about once a year, and the three days afterwards are really strange so I tried tapping into my altered mental state.
August: Synthetic Rain Soundscape - I found a method for creating rain sounds, and ran with it. Learned a lot about synthesis methods and spatialisation using EQ and reverb.
September: One Note Of The Shakuhachi - My entry for Naviar Haiku 142
October: Happy Birthday Steve Reich - Disquiet0249 wishing Steve Reich a happy 80th birthday.
November: Winter's Approach - A wintery synth jam with sequencing and live improv.
December: Tinsel - An attempt to capture the twinkly lights on the tinsel, using a very 80s sound pallete to evoke my own childhood!
