Igor Willcox

Igor Willcox was born in São Paulo on January 6, 1981. He descends of various generations of musicians as having greater influence his father, Paulo César Willcox (conductor, arranger, pianist, vibraphonist) and his mother, Sonia Rocha (singer). Igor started playing drums in 1995 at age 14, having as his teachers, the drummers Alexandre Faccas and Jojo Mayer.
Considered one of the most important drummers in Brazil, Igor has played and recorded with important artists of Brazilian and international scene as; The legendary singer Jimmie Bo Horn (KC & Sunshine Band), Guilherme Arantes, Familia Lima, Sandy & Junior, Cecilia Stalin, Izzy Gordon, Camille Bertault, Fernanda Porto, Daniela Mercury, Anitta, Frejat, Gary Brown, Kenny Brown, Placa Luminosa, among other artists.
In instrumental music, Igor has played and recorded with great names of jazz and Brazilian music such as Bocato, Tomati, Tony Lakatos, Frank Colon (Weather Report), Michel Leme, Marcinho Eiras, Arismar do Espirito Santo, Thiago do Espirito Santo, Sandro Haick, Wilson Teixeira, David Richards, Zerró Santos, Walmir Gil, Erik Escobar, Rubem Farias, Decebal Badila , Lanny Gordin, Bruno Alves, Fernando Rosa, Vini Morales, Glecio Nascimento, Marcus Cesar, etc.
His album with the trio "New Samba Jazz", released by the Swiss label Altrisuoni Records, had excellent reviews in Europe, Asia, USA and Brazil, becoming Best Seller of the label for 4 years.
In 2017 Igor has released his first album and play-along as a solo artist, called #1, featuring big names of Brazilian instrumental music.
The album had excellent reviews on the most important and the popular jazz websites of the world as, All About Jazz, World Music Report, Clube de Jazz.

Currently, Igor Willcox is dedicated to his instrumental music project "Igor Willcox Quartet".
Formed by Igor Willcox (drums/compositions), Vini Morales (electric piano/synth), Wagner Barbosa (saxophone) and Glecio Nascimento
bass) featuring elements of jazz, funk, and fusion.
The group – which plays original compositions, exploring all musicality,
spontaneity, and synergy - has achieved great notoriety in the instrumental music scene, standing out and performing in the most important festivals and Jazz clubs around the world such as Blue Note, Yardbird Suite (Canada), Bourbon Street, Sescs, North City Jazz Festival (Serbia), Santos Jazz Festival, São Paulo Jazz Festival, Play Jazz Festival, Jazz no Hostel, etc.
On April of 2019, the group has made his first Canadian tour, performing in the most important jazz clubs in the country, such as the legendary Yardbird Suite (Edmonton), The Jazz Room (Waterloo), Frankie’s Jazz (Vancouver), Bucking Jam Palace (Calgary), The Rex (Toronto).
Soon afterward, the group has departed to Europe to perform at the North City Jazz Festival, in Serbia, one of the most important Jazz Festivals of Eastern Europe on May 18th.
New Album: Igor Willcox Quartet just released a new album “Live at The Jazz Room”, recorded during its tour in Canada in April/2019.
