Always an intelligent and unique songwriter, it's now been five years since Mat's debut EP 'To Being Free'. Inspired by and likened to James Vincent McMorrow, Nathaniel Rateliff and Woodkid, the EP quickly captured the hearts of many and drew the attention of some of the industry's finest tastemakers (The Line of Best Fit, Drowned in Sound, Clash, The 405).

What followed was an impromptu hiatus. It's took until 2022 for Mat to rekindle his passion for music. He returned in style, releasing a string of mature, impressive releases culminating in the EP A Worrier's Dream, which was expertly mixed by Paul Gregory (Lanterns on the Lake).

In September 2022, the Newcastle-based songsmith will return with two live releases featuring tracks from his recent EP.

Recorded and filmed live in a single take, these reimagined solo versions of Friend & Foe and Backward Steps see Mat strip away the textured accompaniments that we heard on the full release. Left behind are the songs in their rawest and most endearing forms, rich with colourful harmony, heartfelt sentiment, and soothing baritone.

This release will be closely followed by perhaps Mat's most enchanting release to date - Just The Family Inside. With intricacy akin to Fleet Foxes and bursting with charm comparable to Bright Eyes' First Day Of My Life, Just The Family Inside provides yet further proof that Mat has become a writer comparable to few others.
