Mat Hunsley Mat Hunsley Newcastle upon Tyne New single 'Do You Need Me Near' OUT NOW! 'Soft, plaintive songwriting with an autobiographical edge...' - Clash Mgmt: chris@trellismusic.co.uk Mat Hunsley is one young man who – much like the rest of us – is on a journey to find his feet in the game of life. A singer/songwriter from Newcastle by way of Lincolnshire, his early demos were recorded from his student bedroom one snowy February morning – on a cheap but portable second-hand recorder. The raw, stripped-back songs he chronicled that day are reminiscent of the rustic, ethereal charms of Mat’s musical idols: the likes of Bon Iver, Nathaniel Rateliff and James Vincent Mcmorrow. Those initial recordings immediately captured the attention of The Line of Best Fit and The 405 amongst others, leading to support slots for Axel Flovent, Seafret, Hyde & Beast and To Kill A King. A passionate and intelligent documentation of the world as it revolves around him, new single 'Do You Need Me Near' is the latest chapter in a colourful songbook that Mat appears to be compiling as he grapples with the challenges of young adulthood. Having received a big thumbs up from the likes of Line Of Best Fit, Buzzfeed, Wonderland and Drowned in Sound, those close to Mat are quietly hoping that this special talent will soon amass further admirers to his folk-tinged sound and unique brand of storytelling. The 23 year old possesses a unique ability to tell a story in a way that reaches out to the human being inside our worn and weathered 21st century skin. The troubled honesty of his lyricism; the immediacy of his emotive refrain; the poignancy of his delivery; these are the traits that have swiftly connected with a passionate following, and this outstanding young talent is finally starting to walk with a more confident stride.
