HouseHeadPete Boston, United States I am a child of the 70's. A son, brother, Father, husband, and a music lover.... Born in Washington D.C. but grew up in Boston for most of my life. I lived Providence R.I. for 10 yrs but I am finally back in Medfield Mass. At the age of 4 I started using music like a addict uses drugs to escape life's reality. Radio by my bed to put me to sleep at nights. Father on the upright getting ready for Sunday service. Mother singing Mahalia Jackson and Aretha Franklin while she tended to the house. That was my life..... In the mid 80's I experienced house music for the first time and hated it. I didn't get it then. But after listening to a mixed tape and hearing how the Dj mixed from disco to house to rock to new age, to hip hop.....I got it then.. That's where my philosophy of music/life began...People are always resistant of change. Especially the older you get. And especially when it comes to musical taste.. BUT..People are always more receptive if you give them what they want and then show them how something new fits with it... I knew classic hip hop, disco, New age, and rock. But it took a Dj to show me where house fit in... And when it came to house vocals.....Took me back home to mom singing. And I have never left house since.... Unfortunately, In early 90's, Boston's love for house music and house nites wore out. You could go to a house club 7 days a week in Boston in 1990. But by 1994ish clubs decided they wanted a heavier drinking crowd in the clubs. And with the house club scene shrinking, a DJ was born in Sept of 94. I, to this day, am not the greatest mixer. I blame it on bad ears or bad ADD because I can't do two things at once (out of the bedroom). But I have never really cared because I was a music lover LOOONNNG before I was a DJ. Money never mattered to me more than the shared communal experience of house music. My house family is as true a family as my own.. Being a music lover first has always kept me humbled and grounded. I have no problem being the man behind the scene making sure the party goes off without a hitch as I am being the man playing the music. Or the man who found a hot track that the family needs to hear. I lack ego...Because in the end, we all share in our love for the music. As for music. I couldn't tell you.....I love soulful house tracks. I love well done R&B/ Neo-Soul remixes... That's what my family loves. But if its house....I listen to all of it. Because ,for me, house is not only a feeling but its a mood....(Long night, 3am drive back to RI, in the dead of night,....Detroit all the way..) For me, Djing is about the journey as much as it is the destination..... Love to Vivienne. The music sounds better with you!
