Honest Woods’ music is entwined with aspects of many different genres, including those mentioned above, which have enabled them to create their own unique sound. Defined by their striking harmonies, energetic performances, and modest members, Honest Woods perform with the hopes of connecting with others through music.
Members include vocalist and rhythm guitarist Annie Scott, vocalist and lead guitarist Dustin McGifford, bass guitarist Collin Croft, and drummer Joshua Ertman.
Although Honest Woods intend to stay true to their duo roots, with strong influences from bands such as The Civil Wars, the accompanying rhythm section provides a powerful influence over their live performances by completing the full band experience.
After only a year of calling themselves Honest Woods, things began to progress quickly for the ambitious members and their musical careers. Their original song “Shy” placed them in the top 20 regional finals of the CBC Searchlight Competition after also being featured on the Shaw TV’s broadcast show of local talent “The Seen”.
Honest Woods accomplished first place in the Talented Kelowna Competition 2014 and have successfully completed their first professional EP.
Looking back on the finals of the competition Jennifer Smith, entertainment columnist of The Capital newspaper Kelowna says, Honest Woods "managed to evening of impressive performances and turn their moment to shine into an experience audience and performers alike could share".
Receiving another place in the top 20 regional finals of the Searchlight Competition, this time with their song ‘Stranger’, the band felt encouraged by their recent successes, and increasing local support, to expose their support outside of the Okanagan.
The band’s debut into the Vancouver music scene included participation in the Landmark Events Contest, ‘Battle of the Bands’, in which they placed 5th out of 200 competing bands and artists. Winnings included studio time at the legendary Greenhouse studios, and an artist development package to help further their professional image.
Moving forward in their careers by playing festivals, like Kelowna’s Keloha Music Festival, entering in contests, and playing creative shows throughout the Okanagan and beyond, the band is enjoying sharing their music and moving forward in the industry.
“Kelowna’s Honest Woods has had an excellent year. The folk influenced indie-rock band has generated some significant local buzz, becoming one of the most talked about acts in town.”
