Nature and technology. Organic and mechanical. Alien and familiar. Grandiose and humble. These contrasting elements represent the backbone of inspiration for HETRIK. The Seattle based artist, real name Eli Hetrick, has been doing his part to marry these components for well over a decade. As a continuing effort to further explore the possibilities of sound and the combination thereof in music, HETRIK has not so much kept his finger on the pulse of the contemporary, but rather kept his roots and tentacles firmly planted in the soil of the multitude of influences that surround him. This approach is utilized throughout his creative process, and the varying sources of sound with which his music is composed are representative of that.
Growing up surrounded by classical, post-punk, psychedelia, industrial, metal, and experimental influences, Hetrick soon found himself incorporating their imprint into his electronic adventures, which began around 1999. Influences aforementioned are still very present in his current work as well.
"It's just how I work, really" Hetrick explains, "With so much sound out there, it becomes difficult to find your own so, in one way or another, you end up combining all these different elements that resonate with you into something that is very much your own, but with familiar attributes. I know it's not a revolutionary process by any means, but it's what i've found to work for me in terms of inspiration and productivity."
As a result, one can hear an immense gamete of audio from one track to the next. Containing sounds as subtle as a cork pop and a cat's purr, to drums and sub-frequencies that drive forward with near audio hubris, HETRIK's work goes where it pleases but without intention of isolating the listener.
