Indimi nultatem CNPE by Heikki Ruonaniemi published on 2020-03-22T06:36:56Z I have developed a method of composition that I call Polydiatonism. The starting point was to go back in my mind to a time when polyphonic music turned to develop to chord-based homophonic music. I wanted to continue the development of polyphonic music to alongside homophonic music and 48 years later my composing method Polydiatonism was ready. Polydiatonism is absolute music, but the absoluteness of music only applies to the composer. The listener is free to use one’s imagination. Polydiatonism is polyphonic music and there is no concept of chords but the fabric of independent melody lines forms the harmony of the composition. Polydiatonism use the heptatonia prima, heptatonia secunda and heptatonia tertia scales. Heptatonia prima is the same than diatonic scale from which church modes are formed. Similar modes have been formed from the Heptatonia Secunda and Heptatonia Tertia scales. These modes are used when composing. Each melody line has its own mode formed from the one and same heptatonic scale. These modes can be transposed freely, but only at the same time and by the same amount. During composition melody lines exchanges modes with each other. The composition is always one-piece. There are many of rules in Polydiatonism. The more closely the rules are followed when composing the closer you get to absolute music. This is how I hear the world.
