Shark γS-Crystallin Counterpoint 06. 41号 This EP is my first release as 「happy machine」 Steve from Liquid Geometry was interested in "Welcome to the Goddamn Terrordome" and asked me if I had other tracks for a release on his netlabel. I thus started to work on this little album, as a mixture of various experiments and ideas I wanted to do for a long time but that I couldn't have fit in any other track so far. The sampling technic encompass the whole record (some old school Hip-hop fans might recognize many funky samples) 01. Beats & Pieces This track is an improvisation with some samples from my previous track "Digijazz", and more hip-hop stylish beats. I also jammed alot with a Spyro Gyra record and other old vinyls discs, experimenting new sounds and scratch methods 02. Jamming With The Jacksons "Jamming" was made in one night, from an idea that popped in my head long before I even thought about producing it. It's made with the sample of 'Watch your back' by the Jacksons. I'm glad to release it finally. 03. Welcome to the Goddamn' Terrordome This piece is an experiment that I wanted to do for a long time. I'm a huge Kpop fan and the main chord progression that I wrote for this track was a lot influenced by Korean and Japanese music. I decided to search for every K-pop track that I knew with the same kind of chords and cut&paste them to rebuild my chord progression. Since I felt it was a little short, I decided to add as a second part a hip-hop-ish experimental beat made only with turntables and some electronic mad processing and programming. The list of samples used in this track can be find here: https://soundcloud.com/happymachine/welcome-to-the-goddamn 04. Suckers! What should I say about this track ? It's a perfect exemple of my love for sampling <3 05. Shark γS-Crystallin Counterpoint I like a lot Biology and I wanted for long to make something related to DNA in my music. I made a patch in Max/MSP that translate DNA nucleotid sequences into music by simple assignment of one note to each A,C,T,G bases and playing the sequence like a pattern. It's like a genetically randomized arpeggiator. You can hear this DNA melody slowly coming twice in the song as a 4-notes pluck synth lead. For some personal reasons, nucleotid sequence I used was extracted from the γS-Crystallin Isoforms from Lip Shark (Chiloscyllium colax), to be exact :D 06. 41号 This track is a reference to one of my favorite piece of art ever. This is a sort of mix between trance atmospheric music and electronic experimental. I wanted to make some odd experiments with the beats, so I wrote this 6/4 7/4 8/4 perpetually evolving pattern as a basis, and worked from that. At half the way just before the climax, the whole track is rewinded speedily, like a 'recapitulation'. You might here it if you slow down the speed enough.
