arresting images - version for 4 harpsichords + 4-channel electronics (live 26.05.2018) by Hannes Dufek published on 2018-09-05T16:17:21Z arresting images - originally subtitled "fragments of a media society" - is a project first developed in 2012 for harpsichordist Maja Mijatovic. It was first devised as a collection of fragments, as it figures, to be arranged, looped back, projected via pre-recorded layers and played live of course for one harpsichord player. This first version, however, was never done live(soon though, 02/2019, a realisation of this piece will be realised on Maja's Solo CD). Strangely, and luckily, a somewhat updated and renewed version of the piece - arresting images for 4 harpsichords and 4-channel electronics - was presented live this May at the 2018 Prix Annelie de Man in Amsterdam's Orgelpark, of which this file is an account. While the present recording does not really do justice to the spatialised sounds as they were in the hall (a harpsichord on each side, the speakers slightly above the audience, more or less in each corner), it sure gives a good impression of the madness this endeavour was. My huge thanks go to the organisers of the Prix, and to the brave and bold players of this performance, Maja Mijatovic, Silvia Marquez, Machiko Suto and Ere Lievonen, and to Clare Gallagher, the most fearsome and wonderful sound engineer out there.
