The Smackover Stomp by hanklebury published on 2013/12/14 05:28:36 +0000 Last summer, my girlfriend told me about how, when she was a kid, she used to borrow her church's autoharp and play around with it at home. Thoughtful man that I am, I shopped around and bought a used instrument which, with a good cleaning, some oil on the springs and a tune-up, played as good as new. Wasn't that nice of me? So altruistic and selfless? Yeah. Okay, so I've been having my share of fun with the autoharp, as well. And naturally, that includes doing some non-autoharp-ish things with it. It's always been such a sweet-sounding instrument. I want it to growl, to be a riff machine...and I've got just the right amount of ignorance to try and make it do that. This evening, with me wielding a thumbpick and a head full of Friday fuck-it-all, and the autoharp sitting backwards in my lap, we came up with this tune, which we dedicate to the city of Smackover, Arkansas. Maybe someday I'll do a full arrangement with more instruments, but not right now. I'm kinda hungry.
