Concerto for Organ and Orchestra 'The Orbit of Chiron' - Robert Groslot by GroslotMusic published on 2013-06-30T07:53:11Z A few years ago I came into possession of sound samples of the Vienna Konzerthaus Organ. This enabled me to explore registers and register combinations on my own pace… a new sound world unfolded to me! When I decided to complete the concerto cycle with a grand 16th concerto for organ, it was immediately clear to me that I would not consider the organ as a 'normal' solo instrument, but rather as an orchestra in an orchestra. The diabolical and sometimes macabre and uncanny nature of some organ stops brought me to the idea to allude to Chiron, the tenth and last discovered "planet" in our solar system. This asteroid follows a very complex and erratic orbit around the sun, as also the structure of the concerto. And also for the piece there is a kind of ‘orbit’: at the end of the piece one might just be able to continue with the beginning ... Therefore the name of the piece arose naturally: The Orbit of Chiron. Genre Contemporary Classical
