The Early Years:
My first “HOUSE MUSIC” record:
Lil’ Louis – French Kiss 1989
Before this, all I knew was that I was really diggin’ any type of electronic sounds I would hear on the radio during late night broadcasts. Living 100km outside of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, I would listen to the following radio broadcasts outta Toronto hearing “BLEEPS – HIGH HATS – DRILLING ACID SHREEKS – RUMBLING BASS – AND SOULFUL VOCALS”. I wasn’t sure what this music was, but I definitely understood it. This music vibrated through my soul!
1989 – CFNY 102.1FM Deadly Headly Show
1989 – CFNY 102.1FM Chris Sheppard’s Friday Night Live from RPM
1989 – Rhythm Radio / Energy 108 – Canada’s first Dance music station
Favorite “House Music” singles at that time:
Voodoo Ray – A Guy Called Gerald 1988
Heat It Up (Adonis Chicago House Mix) – Wee Papa Girl Rappers 1988
LFO (The Leeds Warehouse Mix) – LFO 1990
This Is Acid – Maurice 1989
1990 – 15yr old starts Wicked Bass Beat Productions, DJing High School Dances playing Hip-Hop, House and Pop.
Saturday, April 24, 1994 – Destiny 4 – Toronto – DJ’s John Acquaviva, DJ Edge, Mark Oliver, Andy Roberts + more.
Once moving to London, Ontario, Canada (home of Plus 8 Records) in 1995 I started my own Radio Show on CHRW 94.7FM with my friends Goldeneye and DJ Sunik. We called the show “FORCES – The DJ Mix Show” which aired on Saturday nights. We wanted to promote the local house and techno music scene, so we got to know the local DJ’s and invited them to spin and showcase their sounds through our show. Some of our guests were:
Kenny Glasgow (Art Department, My Favorite Robot Records)
John Acquaviva (Definitive Recordings)
Freddy Fresh (Analog Records)
Capital J (VIP Dubz)
Nitin (My Favorite Robot Records)
Eric Downer (Thoughtless Music)
The show continued for 6 years influencing many young minds in the area. The show also helped us earn spots in many of the local raves. My mixes consisted of meshing German and Detroit Techno with New York and Chicago House. Hence the name of my 3rd djmix tape “Berlin-Detroit-Chicago-New York” which sold in local shops at the time. As quoted in Toronto’s Tribe magazine, “This guy mixes house, progressive, and trance-ish tracks seamlessly.”
Throughout 1995 to 2004 I graciously accepted residencies at many nightclubs throughout London and Brantford. Since the local club goers were usually of the university and college crowd we had a great time playing house and club anthems, alongside “remixed” R&B and hip hop tracks from the “DJ’s only” Ultimix, Funkymix, and X-Mix remix series records.
Here are the names I’ve used as my aliases:

From 2004-2010, since I got married and have 2 kids, I ended up choosing the corporate reality and started collecting dust on my precious equipment (ouch!). Listening to DJ Mix CD’s and podcasts were my only connection to electronic music during my drives to and from work. It gave me a lot of time to think and contemplate about life, and about which path vibrates truly through my soul. This path I’ve learned is through music and always will be through the creative processes of music. The mere act of creating new sounds and remixing present sounds makes my soul expand and laugh joyfully. Therefore, as of 2010 I’ve chosen to return to my roots. I’m dropping the corporate reality and choosing the Hi-Fi Reality. Welcome to the re-birth of my soul, and my new stage name: “DJ Dre Soul”
