Sparkle in Grey began its musical activity as a solo electronic music project in 1999.
Since 2005 it has developed to a 4-member band devoted to a sort of electronic and eclectic post-rock.
The world eclectic is related to the fact that they like to change from one genre to another, often collaborating with artists of various kinds.
The core of the band is: Matteo Uggeri (laptop, rhythms, trumpet and field recordings), Cristiano Lupo (drums, guitar, bass and glockenspiel), Alberto Carozzi (guitar, bass, bagpipes, harmonica), Franz Krostopovic (violin and piano player).
Many other musicians have collaborated with them, including the Italian maestro of industrial music Maurzio Bianchi/MB or - for instance and on the opposite ends - Simone Riva (ex-drummer of Italian pop singer Alex Baroni).
They have also remixed tracks of, or had tracks remixed by experimental artists such as OvO, Nicola Ratti and Telepherique, or by pop blockbusters such as Kiddycar and Micecars.
Their first full album as a band, "A Quiet Place", released in 2008 with the small cult label Disasters by Choice, was recorded and mixed by Giuseppe Ielasi.
An LP called "Whale Heart" was done in collaboration with the British artist Tex La Homa.
The following CD, "Mexico", was recorded by Cristiano Santini (Disciplinatha), mixed again by Ielasi and mastered by Andrea Serrapiglio (Carla Buzolich's Evangelista).
In 2013, following the recent awkward national and global political and economical situation, they released "Thursday Evening", recorded at Andrea Serrapiglio's BADinstruments sudios at zero impact. The first tracks were also pre-recorded by Mario Bossi, at Arci Blob, Arcore. the album is the harshest in the band's career, thanks also to the powerful mastering done by Riccardo "Rico" Gamondi (Uoki Toki, La Morte).
In 2015 they released an (anti)split album with the American band Controlled Bleeding entitled "Perversions of the Aging Savant" on the Belgian label Off Records, owned by the occasional drummer of Tuxedomoon, Alain Lefebvre.
