GR808 (aka: great 808, 'great oh eight') is my DJ name, adapted from the Guava Films (video production & event audio-visual) logo. My intention is to immerse myself in the software, preferably hacked to open up new sounds, and produce a project of a dozen songs for the sake of releasing my mind of some of the creativity swirling about it, to make room for more.. so I don't explode! Nine of the songs' lyrics are already written, deep expressions out of major life transition from 2010-2012. Most of the tracks will include collaborations with vocal expressionists and already-committed musician friends of various genre's. Each track project will be a transformation story unto itself, probably documented on video behind the scenes, and will weave into the overall theme of the CD project. Each musician will experience out-of-their-box like they never imagined (and I'm certain, me too). The music in my head is extremely different, likely to brand itself as its own genre, which I will be true to dismantle into my 'nameless-faceless' 'open source' genre, the genre without a label. Back in the day (before CDJ's) part of my job at a large entertainment company was to train their many DJ's tech + MCing while spinning. 20 years later now much has changed, although some of my abstract concepts dis'ed back then pop up regularly now as cutting edge trend setting, which tells me the 'open source' genre inside me, which potentially will eliminate the 'genre' labels, at least on the cutting edge for awhile, is getting close to the surface of my experience. I'll post and share with the family, then sit back and enjoy its return to me in its many colors, as flavored by the beautiful people through which it flows freely. Reminds me of fashion, which among other art forms, I am also exploring for the simple purpose of expansion of my capacity to create through free, 'non-copyrighted' expression. right? Of course that would be more of a challenge if I didn't already have another source of income..
so there's the mystery.
