Gillian Nicola Gillian Nicola Hamilton Gillian Nicola is an up-and-coming singer/songwriter from Hamilton, Ontario. With a blend of folk, rock, and soul influences, Gillian creates a sound that honours her diverse taste. With a voice that is often compared to Janis Joplin, Gillian brings authenticity and vulnerability to her music, while combining the honesty of folk music with the power of rock and soul to create a sound totally unique. After a summer of performing, Gillian is spending fall 2015 recording her second full-band EP with Dan Hosh of Catherine North Studios (Arkells, Whitehorse, City and Colour). This recording will be atmospheric in nature, which is evident through non-traditional chord choices and rhythmic patterns throughout the songs, and the contrast of light and dark sounds. Gillian’s recent career highlights include participation in the CIRAA Mentorship Program where she worked one-on-one with Livy Jeanne (Black Box Music, Universal Music), was selected as a Regional Finalist in the 2015 CBC Searchlight Competition, and performing at various high-profile events, such as the 2015 JUNO Concert Series: The Love Song Edition and Hamilton’s Supercrawl. Her 2013 recording, Chasing the Wind was nominated for two Hamilton Music Awards and the Toronto Independent Music Awards.
