Siren blasting in the dead of night
Wakes me from a fitful sleep
Got to get up and be on my way
An appointment to keep

On the way I’m distracted by
A voice that calls my name
It’s a girl I’d been out with before
And she says I am to blame
Or would you like to go the other way

I’m always looking back on the years
Wondering where I had gone wrong
Swore I’d only deal a little while
Now it’s gone on far too long

Hours later back out on the streets
People waiting there for me
How I wish that just one time
It was me they want to see

Or would you like to go the other way
You know what my life involves
You could end up with a cold heart some day

Come and spend some time in my world
And find out what it’s like
Then you’ll see how the glory there
Can disappear over night

That guy sitting in that car on the street
Has been there since I got home
I hope he doesn’t get a warrant for me
Have they tapped my phone
