Gemma Fox – Music Biography
The Birth of Gemma Fox
In 2001, Gemma took her music career to another level, by joining Middle row and releasing her first release on Middle row Records, Club Anthem " SO MESSY". It took the garage world by storm. MESSY was play listed on BBC 1xtra and was constantly on pirate radio.
So Messy sold over 5000 units in a time where people claimed the death of UKG, yeah right!!
Gemma also opened up and was the first track to EVER be played on BBC 1xtra alongside Beverly Knight.
In 2002 Gemma signed with Polydor/Universal Records 2002 and a Publishing Deal with Zomba/Jive. Because of the success of So Messy and with a demo album under her wing, she was offered a 6 figure deal, by several labels, but decided to sign up to Polydor. In 2002 till 2003, Gemma started recording for her debut album, which also was entitled Messy, for obvious reasons. Gemma recorded with The Hood rats, Chucky Thompson, the genius behind Mary J Blige’s My life album and Notorious BIG album, Jonny Douglas, Producer for Kylie Minouge, Midi Mafia, who produced 50 Cents 21 questions, Punch, and Rob Ref Tulow, of SHADY/AFTERMATH.
Gemma travelled across the world to NYC, Washington, Philadelphia, Denmark, Norway and Sweden to meet and greet different producers such as Raphael Sadiq, Dj Premier and Guru, plus many more. After deciding the lineup for her debut, Gemma went on to record her tracks with fellow artists, J2K, Rodney P, Jim Jones, MC Lyte, Julez Santana and Biz Markie.
“Gemma goes Mainstream”
After putting in her hard work on the underground scene, working with the original elite of Grime/garage, Gemma then releases her first mainstream single "Girlfriends Story, featuring MC Lyte". This was Gemma’s first mainstream release in the UK, and was greatly received. With playlists on Kiss FM, Choice FM, BBC 1xtra, Galaxy FM, MTV Base and most music channels. Girlfriends Story was about domestic violence, and because of the song content, Gemma was approached by Women’s Aid to become a patron of their Charity. Gemma still works with Nottingham DV.
The album Messy, was given 5 star rating by most music magazines, i.e. Hip Hop Connection, Dj, Touch, and RWD to name but a few. (see magazines sections) and was ranked number 10 in the official BBC chart of who to watch for the following year. Gemma also performed on, MTV's Brand Spanking New, along with J2K and Rodney P, which went down a storm. The event was hosted by Trevor Nelson and Alesha Dixon. Gemma and featured artist, J2K and Radio 1 DJ Ras Kwame, then went on a 6 week UK Tour, performing tracks off her debut album "Messy".
Gemma's next release was to be "Gone" featuring Juelz Santana, but for reasons, beyond her control, Gone was never a release, although Julez Santana did feature Gone on his "Dice with life" mix tape. However, Gemma did shoot a video with the J2K version, which also got massive support by Trevor Nelson, radio 1 etc. Gemma went on to perform in Greece, Ibiza, Denmark, Ireland and Ayia Napa and Puff Daddy’s Ibiza party.
“Gemma was nominated for BEST NEWCOMER at the Mobo awards. Which Gemma was very proud of?”
“Gemma Fox leaves Polydor”

After Gemma’s vast experience with the music industry, Gemma decided to open her own record label and office. The plan was to give Gemma creative control but also able to build projects with not only her own music but also giving others the chance to showcase their own music. Gemma's first independent release was massive club anthem "Might Be" produced by heavyweight producer Dexplicit, which then lead to Gemma being play listed on BBC'S 1Xtra and topping their top ten chart staying there for over 12 weeks. With the high demand, this lead to Gemma's tour where she performed medleys on her hits. Girlfriends Story, Might Be, Boxers, Gone and Crazy Crush.
Fox Entertainments then released tracks such as "Crazy Crush" remixed by TS7, "The One" remixed by Burga Boy and "Numbers".
