Justin & Ryan
US, United States
Gemini Tactics is the collaboration of longtime friends and music producers Justin Goyette and Ryan Blair of Williston, Vermont.
Growing up just outside of Burlington, Vermont -- a city known for its vibrant and ecclectic local music scene -- Ryan and Justin attended CVU High School together, where through a mutual love of the psychedelic stylings of legendary synth-rockers Pink Floyd, the pair started a small band and performed at local events. Due to the close musical connection they shared, it was only natural that they would start to use their knowledge of music theory to explore the world of EDM, or electronic dance music. Having been captivated by the sonic soundscapes of electronic genres such as house, trance, drum n' bass, and progressive, they began their quest to learn the ins and outs of Propellerhead's Reason 2.5 software, with which they could compose music that would suit their love of melancholy melodies and complex bass progressions.
As with all new creative forays, the first few years of production were rough, although soon they had developed a solid enough knowledge of the software they were using to author tunes that comfortably fit the modern pop song formula. In 2007, Ryan attended the Los Angeles School of Recording Arts, majoring in sound engineering. While there, he developed an ear for sound design and knowledge of many basic production concepts such as compression, limiting, and the various forms of synthesis. When Ryan returned to Vermont after concluding his studies, he brought with him a vast set of skills and techniques which he passed on to his co-producer, Justin. In 2009, the duo officially began producing under the moniker Gemini Tactics, a name borne of the fact that astrologically speaking, were both Geminis and additionally, each brought an individual musical style that, when combined, would transcend any modern genre.
In 2012, Gemini Tactics developed a close musical connection with Burlington, and with the help of their friend, longtime production mentor and fellow EDM producer Jay Brauch, met a vast network of producers and DJs in the local scene. It was this network that would catalyze Justin and Ryan from a pair of friends with a passion for music production, to a growing staple in EDM production in the greater Burlington area. Later that year, Gemini Tactics developed a friendship and business relationship with the godfather of electronic music in Vermont, world-reknowned house music producer and Slanted Black Records proprietor Craig Mitchell. Under his tutelage, the two received the creative guidance and found motivation to start working on remix projects of already established artists. Ryan and Justin developed new sounds and skills needed to create a piece of music that was very unique, but at its core, a solid remix of the original. From 2012 to the present day, Craig Mitchell has given Gemini Tactics the valuable opportunities to remix artists such as Delon, Sasha Gradiva, The Zabalas, and Kate Nash.
Gemini Tactics wouldn't be here if not for the amazing support and inspiration we get from our family and friends: Jay Brauch, Craig Mitchell, Travis Alford, Joseph Prasit, Mitch Almond, Matthew Binginot, Adrian Unser, Jake Davis, the entire 2K Deep crew, Evolution Cribbens, and the very talented David Hitchcock of Haus Creative, who has handled the majority of Gemini Tactic's graphic design work. "We cannot stress how important all of our friends and fans are; we've always just wanted to make music that will captivate people and get them dancing, and the fact that we live in a town filled with such amazing, talented and genuinely beautiful people fills us with a sense of artistic connection. Music is art... art is about raw individual expression, and through expression come understanding, love and compassion. Music is love." -GT
